The Precipice has one good element about it, I loved the setting at the beginning in the Blue Mountains where Thea lives in isolation with her dog. She is a retired school principal who is forced to sell the house she built for her old age and ends up in a rundown old cottage opposite her dream home! This in itself is horrendous however Thea has more to worry about. A young couple buys her house and she develops a flirty relationship with Frank the owner and is drawn to his young daughter Kim with whom she develops a bond with.

The storyline tends to be slow and waffles on quite a bit causing the reader to be distracted at times even though the author has used every word to her advantage I personally found it too long with parts that could have been skipped without having any impact on the story. The characters are real and the settings genuine and Thea’s relationship and open sympathy for the child Kim leads her into a compelling psychological thriller!

The Precipice is not my cup of tea however if you like thrillers this just may be the one for you.
